Theri – Film Review

Well, people call it so, there is a famous saying called “Failures are stepping stones of Success” and Theri is all about Vijay‘s one of the best comebacks after his letdown from Puli. This current generation in Cinematic world is truly blessed to have young directors like Atlee. ‘Raja Rani‘ was his debut film and it was said to be a People’s favorite Romedy film at the time of its release. His second project was Theri and the inception of this film did spread like a wildfire when he announced that Vijay will be the lead in this film. Let him be the assistant of Director Shankar but after watching this film, you’ll probably recognize that ‘The Name is Atlee.’ He should be proud of handling such a project. ‘Thanu’s V Creations’, he’ll be the only producer to receive people’s joyful yell from their beloved vocal  cords. From what he had received, he’ll be overjoyed by the means of hands and heart.

Atlee’s direction, the story was pretty weak with a peculiar moral because people can easily sense the fragrance of the old style drama. It was kind of easily predictable as a story and surprisingly packed as  a screenplay. The greatness of the screenplay showed the efforts on how he handled the script. Actor Vijay’s performance, he should be proud of picking up this kind of project and portraying a powerful role . People will be stoned by his vintage and soulful acting. Baby Nainika’s screen presence was beautiful enough so that the fatherly relationship with Vijay was injected perfectly into the audiences. Samantha,  her acting in this  might be recognized as her career best performance. Prabhu, Raadhika Sarathkumar and Kaali Venkat, they  showed up themselves in few frames and engaged us with this film. Amy Jackson didn’t fit in her role and it is one of the negatives for this film. Mahendran’s debut as an actor, he did justice to his role and that too as a Villain. Not too racy, but managed to pull off the best he could. Rajendran, the supporting actor truly supports this film by his performance.

Theri Official Trailer

Cinematography by George C. Williams, it is time for us to say as “As usual, this man was at his best.” Those eyes grasping visuals were heart warming. The interval block was just perfectly framed and it was one of the reasons why this film is actually a treat for Vijay’s fans. Music by G. V. Prakash Kumar,  his music began to fade away. The songs weren’t so impressive except ‘Dub Theri Step.’ That particular track kept us in the loop with this film. ‘Jithu Jiladi‘ , this song was unbalanced in a way. The visual presence wasn’t even  as powerful as the lyrics. Edited by Anthony L. Ruben, his brilliance is outstanding. Editing was crisp enough for the film having a running time about 157 minutes, which is actually quite lengthy. The placement of the scenes, the stability between the flashback and the present were flawless. The second half was a little bit draggy when compared to the fast and furiously presented first half. Ruben actually played a key role and he is one of the reasons for this film’s success. An applause to the poster makers. We all have that mystical thoughts about this story and that is because of them. Dialogues were hard hitting and it is one of the strengths for this film.

For years, we’ve been treated to trash in the name of ‘Commercial Entertainers’ but this film stood out as one of the best films in recent times. It is rare to watch this kind of film with a moral and that is where Atlee’s talent is highlighted.

Overall, it is Celebration time. A perfect treat for Vijay’s fans. Will satisfy most of the audience. Haters might return back with slight disappointment. No use in having a personal vengeance upon Vijay when you consider a film as a Cinema. This film favours you with wholesome flavours.  A guaranteed Entertainment from the team.

FILM REVIEW : Puli (Tiger)

After a sequence of impact, the expectation for Vijay‘s next film was limitless. For the past two years, his comeback films such as Thuppaki and Kaththi were critically acclaimed. Actor Vijay and Chimbu Deven decided to do a film, titling it as “Puli.” The title seemed very awkward, but some kind of expectations was developed among the masses when Chimbu said that this film is all based on the genre, fantasy and adventure. According to Tamil Cinema, Vijay was only the commercial entertainer to act in this genre of film making. About Puli, Chimbu Deven dives into film making by taking a brave attempt and ended up with disastrous output.

The casting for this film is truly a disaster. Vijay is in the top of this table. He was totally seemed like the odd lead for the entire film. He had faith upon his director and  wants to dedicate himself for this film. But entirely Chimbu failed to produce enough justice upon his lead. After acting in one the most appreciated films like Kaththi, his acting seemed a kind of a reflection from Sura. Acting is something which should be as our soul mate but when it is missing, then gradually it turns out to be a failure. Lead actresses like  Shruti HaasanHansika Motwani and  Nandita Swetha were totally worthless for this film. Well, Did the director think them as some kind of play toys? He just used them as fillers. Sudeep did provide some justice to his role. He looked some kind of a serious character in the beginning, but making him to dance for a song is kindly inappropriate. Sridevi forced herself to do a villainous role and projected a decent job. But the story didn’t provide enough space to showcase herself. Other members truly tried act as pillars, but the soul of the character was missing. Emotional scenes had no impact and this loosened the screenplay.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad. The music is very important for this kind of films, especially the background score. But when it was a failure, then it affects the strength of the film. The songs were truly a Downfall for this film. Fillers can’t just help to provide a wholesome film. Choreography just fell flat and Childish. Even at this age, Vijay does it brilliantly, but Choreography turned up a disaster along with Music. Cinematography by Natarajan Subramaniam. Only few frames were appreciable. Other than that the Cinematography lost its grip, fails to capture the natural visuals. Especially in songs, the cinematography was vulgarly framed. Edited by A. Sreekar Prasad. As usual, he does his job as well as possible. It should have been a tough task to edit films like these. He did put forth his effort and tried to trim the weak screen presence as much as possible.

The technicians are really needed to be appreciated. They had done a great job, especially the VFX (CGI) team. They were good, but still needs to be careful. It actually lost his shape at certain scenes. Vijay’s half face was overlapped by the building. Need not be perfect, but at least be careful while doing this. Production designing was good and it also created a visual treat. Costume Designing was just equivalent to a fancy dress competition. Director Chimbu Deven had a good story, but the execution failed permanently. Poor screenplay breaks the bond between the film and the audiences. Being one of the judges in Naalaya Iyakunar, he must picturize the essence of input that needs to be added to a film.

Overall : A Cat was in the disguise of Puli. If the cat crosses, then your bad time begins and that was the result of this film. Expectations may end up badly. Many People will feel the disappointment. While Vijay fans must wait to Troll other fans. Overall, it was just an immature / childish film.

Film Review : Kaaka Muttai (The Crow’s Egg)

After few Ups and Downs projection of Tamil Cinema, Finally a Debut Film Uplifted the Power especially by New Born Talent Heads. Kaaka Muttai, from the debutant M. Manikandan who naturally provided an aid as the developmental hand for the Tamil Cinema. This film will be far more than what we expect on screen. Manikandan attempts to direct a beautiful, courageous film and he truly nailed it by the help of the Natural Intelligence. Dhanush and Vetrimaaran acted as a helping hand by considering a brave attempt to Produce this film. Now they can be truly proud as the Producers and created a vision in producing such beautiful films. They encouraged the director to deliver his talent filled masterpiece. This Film proudly grabs two National awards for the categories respectively, National Film Award for Best Children’s Film and National Film Award for Best Child Artist for Chinna Kaaka Muttai Ramesh Thilaganathan and Periya Kaaka Muttai J. Vignesh.

The Director had a faithful decision in choosing the cast and they portrayed themselves as the soul of the characters. Ramesh Thilaganathan and J. Vignesh were sparkling in the Dirty Palace. They proved the Maturity of their Talents. The Hard work pays them with National Award. Even they were equally good, Chinna Kaaka Muttai seems to be highlighted by his certain activities. They both drove themselves and delivered their souls to the localities with a perfect Language skills in delivering the dialogues. Iyshwarya Rajesh merged herself with the Character of a Mother and proved her potential to Tamil Cinema. Ramesh Thilak with his Partner carried away our minds by their duet comedies and it pays a through entertainment to the people. Even the role of a Minister, a Pizza deliver, Palarasam and along with many others added themselves as the bricks to construct a complete piece of Fun – filled Beautiful Film.

The Whole Team deserves this victory for the works. Production designing was perfect for this kind of films. The Location was speechless, it just reflects his reality. Editing was dealt a crisp and it was spiced brilliantly throughout this film. The World is truly missing a great talent like Kishore Te. Even the timing of including the title was extremely perfect. Cinematographer ManiKandan, the director of this film who really brought his vision over his script by a perfect frame of Cinematography. Music by G. V. Prakash Kumar, after some downfalls it seems that this film will definitely be come back film for him. What is so perfect about the music is that, it was along with the story. No unnecessary songs, no separate location and moreover there is no foreign sets. The Screenplay was at its best. One may never need a chance to watch his clock ticking. Overall the technical crew proved themselves that this film defines their piece of work.

There are only some rare films which is knocks among the people’s heart. Even though Udaan includes certain stuffs and dealt more about the Father – Son relation, that ending really grasps the people which remains in the soul’s of beautiful minds. This film mainly deals with an adult life and his complications which was well directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Children of Heaven, An Iranian film provided the exact feel which is one of notable points in order to watch Kaaka Muttai. The Beauty of Talents reflected perfectly. This film is as same as Kaaka Muttai were it deals with the life of Two children, portraying as a brother and a sister. Both Children of Heaven and Kaaka Muttai brings about the same feel which includes certain different ingredient. Majid Majidi truly nailed it by the help of certain naturally born Talents.

OverallKaaka Muttai is a Pure Cinema. Feeling the Beauty of Cinema after long time. Jaw Dropping performances. Deserves a standing ovation from people which is truly greater than the National Award. The Overloading cuteness of Chinna Kaaka Muttai, Thumbs up. Hats Off to the Team. A Tasteful Muttai delivered a crispy Toast. A beautiful Relationship reflected to me after Children of Heaven, Udaan… Please do watch it, Never miss a True Cinema.

After eight years, a surprise awaited for the cinema fans. Expectation begins to linger among the hearts of people when they heard that the actress Jyothika returns to Tamil Cinema after her final on screen acting in Pachaikili Muthucharam. Jyothika being a purity in terms of talent, she does give a huge surprise on screen. Let me begin with the title. This movie was said to be an official remake of the Malayalam film How Old Are You. This film is all about a woman at the age of 36. Hence this film is entitled as 36 Vayadhinile. The title card creators are needed to be appreciated for their beautiful work in this film. The usage of Royal Blue and Pink colored stylish fonts with the white background added some beauty to this film. This Film is majorly releasing under the banner of  Suriya‘s 2D Entertainment. Since this is a debut film under his production company, people experienced the beauty of the graphic clip for  production studio 2D Entertainment.

Director Rosshan Andrrews was able create an inspiring story that would linger every women on the earth’s crust. This film  is different and inspiring like people experienced while watching English Vinglish. It is really a well written script and that was able to hit the bull’s eye. The casts are an highlighted portion in this film. They were able to bring the reality from the reel of Tamil Cinema. Jyothika conquered every characters and definitely ruled this film. She delivered a splendid performance which was reflected as an applause from the audience. Rahman proved his excellency for being a good supporting role for this film. His character in this film really played a key role which even created a grudge among people for being a villainous husband in this film. This shows how he deeply immersed himself into this film. Amritha Anil truly done a great job as being a daughter of Joythika and Rahman. Delhi Ganesh and along with everybody bloomed an wholesome feel of a Family. Each and every single person did provided some wonderful piece of acting.

Official Trailer

The Production designing was excellent except from one part in this film which does create some awkward feel about the background. Other than this, the production designing crew did brought the comfort and the environment of a middle class family. Dialogues were really beautiful and certain portions, the dialogues were really powerful and inspiring. The Dialogue writer Viji can be appreciated for his works in this film. Music by Santhosh Narayanan is one of this highlighted portions in the film. He did provided his brilliant piece of musical work in the Background Scores. Expect President theme every other songs and scores were absolutely good. He truly helped in highlighting the beauty of this Film. Cinematography by R. Diwakaran, he actually done a pretty decent job. Certain frames were excellently captured. The usage of the sunlight background was done perfectly. Edited by Mahesh Narayanan, not really a crisp editing but he does add the smoothness to this film. Boring stuffs and unwanted sentiments were edited perfectly.

What will the downside for this film? There are some tiny negatives included. Logically it won’t be really appreciable unless the great person is a good minded and a different person to meet just an ordinary Clerk. But this can be really neglected when a person watches this film . If we go in for logical errors then we should move out ourselves from certain movies. So just we’ve got a move on.

Overall : Family, Friends, Friends of friends, Only me… you guys can be any one of these options. Just click your life’s option to watch 36 Vayadhinile and be a person to feel this film. Jyothika truly nailed it. She displayed a splendid performance. She ruled this film. Power of women reflected as the applause from the audience. Watch it with your Family…

Film Review : Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai

Rating: ★★★☆☆  3/5

After directing a critically acclaimed film Peranmai, Director S. P. Jananathan has set his feet in directing another typical script. Since his past films had been freaking our souls, thoughts on Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai were lingering among people. An expectation was developed and if you are asking me whether it would fulfill our expectations, I’m here to answer that “Just go for it“. This script gets a well suited title which one will be able to understand only if he or she watches it. The cast could have been really improved a little bit but they had done their best and they could provide some justice to the script. Highlighted among the crew is  Vijay Sethupathi, he nailed it. As usual he put forth his goodness for his profession really well.

What deserves a bold effect for a  S. P. Jananathan Film? The most highlighted portions in his films are the script and the moral. Even the bald director deserves a bold effect for delivering his boldness in directing a powerful script. It is a well executed script but perfectness was missing and that was one little downside for this film which I felt that it can neglected. Screenplay was too good in the second half which was a bit lacking in the first half.

Back to the cast. After Vijay Sethupathi, actor Shaam is back to form and he provided an hundred percent justice to his character. Having a fit body, it feels as if he is absolutely fit for her film.  Arya play role as a different character which no one had ever thought of. But S.P does prove that the hero is also fit for this role. Karthika Nair, an actress is definitely needed but does she is apt for this role? That’s doubtful I believe. She just added a partial justice for this role. Other members of the casts really added a great justice to their characters.

Production design is really a major highlighted portion of this film. Really the production designing team deserves an applause. Their efforts did not went in vain especially in designing a Jail. They helped in creating a perfectness of designing S. P. Jananathan‘s vision. Editing was spiced beautifully and it added the crisp to this film. First half of the film had a pretty dull screenplay but Second half of the film puts the film at the top of the table.

What adds the negative feel to this film? Music by Varshan adds the biggest disappointment to this film. Especially the songs diluted the screenplay in the first half. Unwanted duet song in a crucial portion is a downside for this king of film. Since Purampokku has a well constructed script, such songs can be neglected. But the Background score was well composed and Srikanth Deva (Background score) can be appreciated for it.One portion was seemed to be copied from Mission Impossible Theme. Cinematographer Natraj Subramaniam added some darkness to this film. Some frames such as the train sequence were well captured by Natraj. In such aspects, the cinematography can be appreciated. Climax ended the way it should be. No other possible ways can be the only reason.

Overall : Not so perfect but extremely powerful. Well written and executed by S. P. Jananathan. Partially good first half and extremely superb second half. You won’t miss the thrill. Just go for it.

Dulquer Salmaan‘s Ustad Hotel. Thank you Writer – Anjali Menon for feeding Beautiful Cinema to our people. Director – Anwar Rasheed, Well done. Sensational Climax. Outstanding moral. Definitely its a food for your soul. A must watch.

Rosemary’s Baby. Born a psychological Mystery.Good Adapted Screenplay.Yet again, that was one hell of a Direction from Roman Polanski. A must watch.

Shraddha Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor‘s Haider. Excellent film making by Vishal Bhardwaj. Sensational plot. Excellent Dialogues. Hats off to the Team.

Reese Witherspoon‘s Wild. According to me, Reese delivered one of her Career Best performances. Director Jean-Marc Vallée didn’t fill my expectation. His work in Dallas Buyers Club as a director, stays in the top. Certain Dialogues were beautiful. Good Cinematography. Yves Bélanger did capture the Nature’s Beauty. Not an interesting Screenplay but a good one. Inspiring at times. Overall a biographical drama film, it is worth a watch but never will be a great beauty like Sean Penn‘s Into the Wild.

There are some movies which you can’t just express the quality with words but you can just feel it. And now, I’m proud to add Atonement to that list.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Film Review

Marvel had set the foot in reuniting their comic hit lists in the sequel for The Avengers which is said to entitled as  Avengers: Age of Ultron. After the Directer Joss Whedon mentioned about the sequel, it actually peers that the expectations among people really went viral. Guess what people, he does that yet another time. The sequel was absolutely better than the previous screening. The thing which really matters for a superhero movie is majorly the plot and the Technical portions that too the realistic effects which was brought about by the VFX Team ( Visual Effects). It seems to be like the Green mat technology that is the Chroma Key method which really did work for this kind of film.

And about the casts, whom do we must consider as the Theme for the whole creation. To begin with about the step ahead theme was the introduction of The Twins performed by Aaron Taylor- Johnson as  Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. They added the true miracle to the film. As usual Robert Downey Jr. personified the casual appearance in this film along with the herculean Hulk, the respected Captain America, the tall dude Thor, the beautiful Nat and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. They added the enthusiastic effect not only to the film but also to the people who are watching it. Even though Samuel L. Jackson appeared only in some few portion, the Pulp Fiction Star added the awesomeness in this film. His dialogues are needed to be highlighted and he is truly damn good in delivering it. Along with many others, overall they added the Bonding Power to this film.

About the Technicians, Cinematography by Ben Davis. The Cinematography seems to be one of the toughest parts next to the plot creation and the VFX portion. Fixing a particular frame under the green mat technology is highly difficult but under these circumstances, the cinematographer had really proven his brilliancy with his Camera. Music by Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman. Actually to be truthful, it was a way too disappointed with the Background scores. It was better for a Superhero film but not seems to be impressive enough.  Editing by Jeffrey Ford and Lisa Lassek, it was spiced over the film perfectly and the editors did a splendid job. At last the Visual effects Team, they had really done an outstanding job in turning the impossible tasks possible. Overall they are the Real Heroes whom will be happy to celebrate the Victory of Avengers: Age of Ultron. About the Screenplay. The second half was more energetic than the first half with Spectacular Interval block. Along with his hard work, the director has to thank his team for lifting him up for displaying their best.

Finally for the Negative side. People who hate to watch a superhero film will definitely feel like hating it. Especially Christopher Nolan‘s Batman admirers, Avengers: Age of Ultron will never be a kind of a film what they expect. You people got to digest it and set yourself to watch such Summer Entertainer.

Overall: Definitely a treat for a Superhero fan but for other people, it depends upon their Self Acceptance…
